"HAPPY" ARMENIA: EACH DAY BECOMING MORE TOLERANT

Till 2003 homosexuality was not legal in Armenia.  There were some difficult times for LGBT people. Since 2003 a lot has been changed. Yes, homophobia is still pretty much around, but we all know and can see that it is NOT going to last forever. There were organizations established to protect LGBT rights. many activists were speaking up, and homosexuality was a  huge popular topic for all kinds of media. Most of the media was of course homophobic but there were some active websites and channels supporting equality and human rights.
A lot has been changed since the tragic case of the ''DIY  bar attack'' in Yerevan, which was the first open hate crime towards LGBT in Armenia. People started to speak up and protest against homophobia and Neo-Nazism. Newspapers were discussing this new and ''exciting'' type of information and promoting it (sometimes even in a negative way). A lot of groups of young activists were born and growing very quickly into something strong.
Unfortunately these changes were only seen in Yerevan. Homophobia exicts and has a major influence in other cities and regions of Armenia.
However people are starting to talk about this situation and each day it is becoming more relevant. It is very important to understand that protesting against homophobia and making it disappear is an important ''duty'' of our lives. Remember there are hundrents and thousands of people who are afraid of living openly, still being in a huge risk of getting dicriminated.
Being able to help somebody is a privilege we should appreciate.
Based on the major changes that were made, we can proudly say that some day, very soon LGBT people could be secure and safe enough to live a fully open and equal/happy life they deserve.
